With travel still restricted due to COVID, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan trips (both locally and for once COVID is lifted). And with us humans needlessly scrolling through instagram multiple times daily, why not follow some accounts that may inspire the intrigue within you.
@geosteinmetz
George Steinmetz is an American photographer who has been featured in Time, The New Yorker and countless other publications, and is a regular contributor to the National Geographic. George’s work is distinctive and overhead as he takes most of his images whilst paragliding. I’ve recently purchased his book “The Human Planet: Earth at the Dawn of the Anthropocene” and highly recommend it too if you enjoy George’s insta feed.
@natgeotravel
Featuring an array of photographs from around the world, from multiple contributors, National Geographic Travel is not only a great way to discover new places to visit, and beautiful scenic areas, it is also a fantastic way to discover more travel instagram accounts to follow.
@beeratlas
If you’ve followed this blog for any time, you’ll know that beer is an integral part of my travel experience. The Beer Atlas combines 2 things I love, beer, and scenic photography. The Beer Atlas is open to submissions, if you ever have a beer on top of Kilimanjaro, be sure to submit.
@niamhmccannphotography
Niamh is a photographer from Newry in Ireland who has been snapping some fantastic shots both near and far from her base in Newry. There are some amazing shots of scenery, and others of local wildlife.
@culturetrip
I’ve previously plugged Culture Trip on my must have travel apps piece, which shows how highly I think of them. Culture Trip accept articles from travel bloggers and locals which reduces the susceptibility of being used as a promotional tool for tourist traps. And their Instagram account highlights some of the best places to visit and some of their best articles on their site.
@condenasttraveller
Conde Nast Traveller is similar to natgeotravel in that it’s an amazing place to find new accounts to follow, and you’re experiencing a wide range of content and accounts to follow.
@lonelyplanet the last of the big worldwide travel accounts that I’m going to post is Lonely Planet. This account picks out beautiful photos taken from all across the world; and a brief scroll through their feed will have you adding countless destinations to your bucket list.
@europe, @africa, @southamerica
The Europe, Africa and South America accounts all serve similar purposes; promoting their namesake continent. I looked for an Asian and North American version but didn’t have much luck, that’s not to say they don’t exist. Wherever you’re based, you’ll be able to find an adventure to plan on a continent near you, or venture out a bit further if you’re feeling extra adventurous.
@peggyseyes
People who know me will know of my admiration for musician Peggy Gou, she created this account to showcase the weird and wonderful things she had encountered whilst touring the world and there’s a great mix of interior design, sky shots, art and scenery to inspire awe.
@neonmuzeum
I visited the Neon Muzeum in Warsaw and loved it. The Instagram page highlights shots taken from inside the museum and other historic neon signs from Poland’s communist era.
@salomonthemove
Salomé is a French photographer with a keen eye for a good photograph. A lot of her images are from her hometown of Lyon, however her skill for taking good photographs stands up on her travels, highlighted by wonderful shots in Poland, Czech Republic, Morocco and further afield.
@germanytourism
One of my favourite countries I’ve visited has been Germany. This is the official page of the German tourist board and has features from around the country, from the picturesque villages in Bavaria, to the TV towers through the German cities. Most countries will have an official tourist Instagram, so if you’ve a soft spot for a particular country be sure to scope out their Instagram page.
@tourismireland
I’d have my citizenship revoked if I promoted another countries official tourism page and not my own. Tourism Ireland has a wonderful range of photos from old castles, picturesque villages, beautiful scenery and nature shots from all corners of the Emerald Isle.
@sixmileimages
Six Mile Images largely photographs around my adopted home of Belfast, and in Northern Ireland and has mustered up some incredible images (you may recognise some of their shots from @tourismireland)
@whichicao
And last but not least, a shameless plug for myself. I found the upkeep of a second Instagram account for my blog tedious, so have begun posting most of my travel related stuff on my personal account.
