Over the past couple of years, Belfast has developed a very good burger scene. Whilst boasting international chains like Burger King and Five Guys, we have developed local establishments as well, so I’ll be focusing on these/chains that aren‘t available outside of Ireland.
To keep things consistent across all burger spots, I’m going to order beef pattys with cheese (or the closest thing they have to it on their menu), and keep the toppings as they intend for the burger to be served.
Sorry chicken burger aficionados, you’re going to have to wait for another post.
Smash Bros.
I got fries (but this post isn’t called the best fries in Belfast) and a double smash burger, which was the closest to stated consensus burger on the menu.
The pattys are thin, and cooked to a nice crisp, extending out of the bap itself, the bun was deliciously soft, and coated with special sauce. I can get why it’s so popular.
Hi Burger
The crispy beef on the outside perfectly compliments the more succulent beef on the inside.
The bun was perfectly crisped, the toppings complimented the meat. This burger was honestly better with each successive bite. If it wasn’t so filling, I’d have gotten a second. Ordered with the most crispy fries imaginable.
Burger Club
A floury bun with a deliciously juicy patty, Burger Clubs cheeseburger is what your mouth imagines a perfect cheeseburger to be.
The bun, more reminiscent of a backyard barbecue puts a different spin on what should be expected from a burger joint. And the fries were delicious.
Baps
Baps is perhaps spoken of less than the others on the list, but it deserves to be held in the same esteem, as its as good a quality burger.
The beef is deliciously crisped on the outside, whilst maintaining that succulent inner body, maintaining the juiciness.
Bunsen Burger
A chain that also has stores in Dublin and Cork, Bunsen Burger has taken the Irish market by storm.
Here I got the Double Cheeseburger. Bunsen ask how you like your burger cooked (like steak), so you can get it tailored to your preference, and the chunky pattys do not disappoint. You can’t go wrong with medium, and these juicy patty’s hit the spot.

And there we go, after asking friends, colleagues and Google what the best burger in Belfast was, and trying them all with as close to the same burger in each as I could, and I’ve selected the best 5. Should another worthy burger catch my attention, I’ll not hesitate to update this post.
