Travel tips + advice

Here I am going to give a few bits of advice/tips which I have personally come across from my time traveling that I wish I had come across sooner.

Apps

With everything being at the tip of our fingers, getting around in foreign cities is as easy as ever. See my pick of must have travel apps here.

See some of the travel apps I have installed on my own phone.

Plugs

Bring an extension lead alongside your travel adapter. Turn one plug into 4.

Battery packs

Stock up on portable battery packs. Whilst traveling around using google maps, Moovit and other apps – you notice your battery drains in no time – be prepared and have 2 or more battery packs ready to recharge on the go. A lot of public transport areas abroad come equipped with USB ports too so you can charge whilst moving between destination whilst saving the power from your portable batteries.

Withdrawing cash from an ATM abroad

I remember the first time I tried to lift money in Germany and the ATM offered me an intimidating aura when I tried to withdraw funds. It suggested a conversion rate well below what stood at that time – and asked me to accept or decline this exchange rate. I panicked and accepted and got €50 for close to £50, when it should have cost £41 (approx). Remember to decline the conversion they offer if it’s not similar to what the actual conversion rate is – see what I mean with the example below.

FlixBus

A cheap method of travelling long range distances. FlixBus is amazing for getting from A to B whilst saving you money. They offer many routes through Europe – so whether you wanted to visit 2/3 cities on the one break, or take a day trip to a nearby City – check out FlixBus and see what routes they offer from where you are.

Public Transport

Familiarise yourself with the local methods of transport and if there’s an underground/metro – download the map onto your phone for easy accessibility.
