Whilst I’ve previously made a list of the best European beers, I thought I’d focus on beers with the coolest iconography and brand – though they may not necessarily be the nicest beers.
Red Stripe 🇯🇲
The national beer of Jamaica managed to create an iconic beer without resorting to lazy predictable images of the Marley family, Reggae or Rastafarianism (though strict adherents of Rastafarianism don’t drink), they’ve literally just used a Red Stripe.
Guinness 🇮🇪
The Guinness Harp stands out so strikingly against the black liquid inside. Alongside marketing campaigns with turtles, horses and toucans – it has catapulted itself to not just the forefront of Irish beer consciousness, but beer worldwide
Tiger 🇸🇬
Tigers are a cool animal, this nice Singaporean beer captures the iconography of a Tiger and has built a brand around it (a cool brand). Only think that could top it would be Dragon beer (this is my idea, don’t steal it)
Birra Moretti 🇮🇹
Featuring the cool Italian mascot Baffo on the label, Birra Moretti screams laidback cool.
Maisel’s Weisse 🇩🇪
The logo could almost represent Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory – this Bavarian Weissbier is unashamedly different and I think that’s why I love it so much.
Corona 🇲🇽
If you close your eyes, and imagine a beach. Now imagine you’ve a beer in your hand on that beach. Is it an ice cold Corona?
Whilst the name has had an unfortunate double entendre with a pesky virus, Corona still maintains its cool image.
Quilmes 🇦🇷
Quilmes’ logo pops out and catches your eye. It is eye catching, simple, iconic and cool.
And if Diego Maradona is a Boca Juniors shirt with Quilmes sponsoring it doesn’t scream cool – I’m not sure what will.
Newcastle Brown Ale 🏴
That Star surrounded by brown just screams cool. A working class drink consumed after a hard days work.
It has also adorned the shirts of Newcastle United. 2 Newcastle institutions came head to head for this shirt.
Chang 🇹🇭
Chang is Thai for elephant, and is one of the beers you’d be chugging on a Thai beach.
Similar to Newcastle’s football sponsorship, Chang featured prominently on the front of Everton’s shirt for 13 years.
Harp 🇮🇪
Though a part of the Diageo/Guinness empire – Harp was initially brewed in Dundalk, beside the train station. It has become synonymous with beer drinkers in Northern Ireland and is beloved for its’ taste and status as a mainstay lager.
Continuing with the football sponsorship team, Harp sponsored its’ hometown and neighbours Dundalk FC – who were a stones throw from the original brewery. If I ever do a “coolest banana brands” expect Fyffes to feature.
